Spine and spinal cord tumors
Our team has extensive neuro-oncological experience, allowing us to achieve optimal functional outcomes in the complex treatment of pediatric spine and spinal cord tumors. We work with other specialists as a first-class multidisciplinary team and in health centers with the most modern technological resources for diagnosis and treatment.
They are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms characterized by a wide variety of histological types. They may involve the spinal cord exclusively or originate in neighboring structures (nerves, dura mater, vertebrae, muscle, paravertebral organs). In some cases, they may be associated with specific syndromes.
Symptoms vary widely and depend on the patient's age and the type and location of the tumor. Clinical features include pain in the spine or radiating to a limb, weakness in the limbs, loss or increased sensation, altered temperature and pain control, urination problems, and ambulation difficulties. If you experience these clinical manifestations, please contact our team immediately.
Diagnosis is made with complementary studies such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Equipment capable of performing highly complex, targeted studies is essential. Treatment includes several options: surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and other targeted therapies.
Surgery is the primary treatment modality, with the goal of achieving a histological diagnosis (to determine the tumor type and define the best treatment) and reducing tumor volume to improve neurological deficits.
We work in health centers with the latest technological resources for diagnosis and treatment. Our team is at the forefront and always searching for new alternatives that allow for better treatment and a definitive cure.
